BILL’S Community Bike Shop

Saint Columba House’s very own bike shop is open to all the cyclists in the community!

Customer Service and Commitment to Inclusion

In 2023, the City of Montreal forged ahead to build “hard” cycling infrastructure with its expansion of separated bicycle pathways that crisscross the city.

Meanwhile, Bill’s Community Bike Shop (BCBS) continued to build “soft” cycling infrastructure by empowering all residents of Point St. Charles to cycle by providing free or low-cost bicycles and equipment, and geared to income bicycle repairs.

Through these efforts, Saint Columba House tackled the issue of “transportation poverty” by reducing the transportation portion of overstretched household budgets. It also increased the health and well-being of low-income individuals by allowing them to commute to employment and participate in community-based activities.

Last year, BCBS served 475 customers and consistently boasted a five-star rating on Google Reviews. Its staff and volunteers took the time to explain issues to clients and to teach them how to do basic bicycle repairs.

BCBS’s commitment to cycling safety for children was also on full display; it distributed 25 helmets, 15 bells, and 5 standard USB lights to low-income families at low cost or free of charge.

Sustainability & Community Bike Sales

Bill’s Community Bike Shop reduced waste and promoted sustainability by restoring second hand donated bicycles; refurbished bicycles were put on sale on September 23, 2023, and 20 bicycles were sold by the end of the season.

Our partnership with the Consortium Echo-Logique unfortunately came to an end. While we collected tires and inner tubes and forwarded them to the Consortium for recycling, C.E.L. is no longer collecting these items. We are proud to announce our new partnership with Recyc-Quebec.

And did you know that, by supporting us, you’re not only keeping cyclists on the road but also fueling our other vital programs—from youth education initiatives to senior wellness activities. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier community, where every pedal power pushes us forward.
